Adopting Ariel: Island Time Charters’ New Family Member

We are proud to announce that we adopted a manatee named, Ariel! We are so excited to welcome her to our Island Time family!

We have partnered with Save the Manatee Club and adopted the beautiful sea cow. Their mission is to protect these gentle giants and by adopting Ariel, we are supporting their valuable efforts and ensuring manatees like Ariel are around for years to come.

Save the Manatee Club is a nonprofit organization established in 1981 by renowned singer/songwriter, Jimmy Buffett. They’ve saved countless manatees in their 30+ years of work and we feel so fortunate for the opportunity to work with them and be a part of their team.

Ariel currently resides in Homosassa Springs, Florida, and you can actually visit her and many other rescued manatees at this special refuge. She is one of the more social manatees and tends to rest alongside one or two friends - so you’ll usually see her with her group of friends.

Did you know manatees inhabit shallow coastal areas and rivers throughout Hilton Head Island? Many people think manatees only live in Florida, but we regularly see our big friends in the area and especially in and around marinas.

Sadly, they face a variety of threats such as entanglement in fishing gear, habitat loss and degradation, as well as boat strikes. Ariel was struck as a calf but was saved by the organization. As a Captain, it's important to me that we respect and protect our habitat and continue our conservation efforts to ensure a healthy environment for all.

By joining the Save the Manatee Club, we can ensure that Ariel and all other manatees have a safe and healthy home. Together, let’s do what we can to help conserve these beautiful creatures and show Ariel some love.
